In my work as a Software Developer, I am responsible for the development and maintenance of various information systems. I have worked for big Dutch names such as DUO, DigiD, Bureau Halt, Jaarbeurs Utrecht, Efteling, and others.
I have worked in several large organizations (profit and non-profit) as a Functional Administrator or Senior / Lead Software Developer. Because of this combination of roles I have become very interested in Domain Driven Development. Because of my current work experience in the various roles I have fulfilled, I have come to believe that the interests of a good developer should not stop with technology.
The world can no longer exist without the existence of IT. Many organizations see IT as a necessary evil that they have to use for various reasons. These include customer satisfaction, laws, and regulations, competition, etc.
Some organizations find it difficult to determine how best to use IT so that it works to their advantage. Unfortunately, in many organizations, IT and Business are too far apart to achieve this. The Business-IT Alignment is low in these types of organizations.
I believe that a good senior software developer can play a major role in increasing alignment. For this reason, in addition to technical training, I also do training in the field of business information management. For example, I recently followed a Master’s program in Business Information Management.
